"VOLTARIA" - Petisqueira Portuguesa - Tapas restaurant in Porto, Portugal
Very tasty and not your usual old town tourist trap. Pork cheeks deserves a special mention and the desserts were lovely
A bit of a wait to get a seat due to the limited seating here, however once seated you are in for a treat. The octopus here was the best I had during my time in Portugal. The shrimp in the risotto were so flavourful. Our waitress whom I believe is the owners wife (sorry I forget your name!was very friendly in making recommendations and lovely to chat with after the meal. I will definitely be coming back.
Some of the best food I had in Portugal. The braised porc cheek is a must try. You can have it as tapas or full meal with either mashed potatoes or rice. Also tried the octopus which was also very good.
It was a fantastic visit! Great food, very affordable, there is a nice variety in the menu. But the best thing about this place is very lovely service! We spent great time! Greetings from the group from Poland 🇵🇱😍
I could not speak more highly of this restaurant. My partner and I both agree that this is one of the best meals we’ve ever had, not just in Portugal. The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was impeccable. I am gluten intolerant, and the server made sure to provide me with options of what I could eat. Further, we ordered two of the three GF desserts on the menu, but they brought us the third one complementary so we could try it. It was very reasonably priced, as well. It is a tiny restaurant (only 4 tables that each seat 4 peopleso I definitely recommend getting there before opening. We arrived at 6:45pm for a 7:00pm opening and were the first in line, but just minutes later I heard the server tell those in line that it would be about an hour and a half wait. It is, however, completely worth it! Thank you so much for such a wonderful dining experience.
Some of the best food Ive had in two months of travelling. Notable dishes for me were the Tortugal and the Cream from Heaven dessert. Was also amazing to taste and learn about the 40+ year old Ruby port. Service was amazing also. Will recommend this to anyone coming to Porto!
Wonderful spot. Got there at 10 to noon and there were several people before but was seated outside (my choiceimmediately and I have to say the service with Fatima (the owner and the serveris excellent. Shes funny, attentive, and just makes you feel at home. The food is great and the prices are beyond decent as compared to other popular spots around (looking at you TapaBentobut way way better. Highly recommended.
This place is SMALL so come early. They don’t do reservations at this time. I came 15 minutes before opening for lunch on Aug 2 (peak tourist seasonand there was already a line. Although all the seats were taken inside, I was the first to be seated outside. (If you have a big party, you’ll probably be seated outside as well since the tables inside looked like they are for two or four persons)I thought the food and service was great; staff was kind. I had red sangria, bolhina de alheira with port reduction, and shrimp and codfish rice. (This rice dish was more soupy than I expected but seems that’s how it’s often done in Portugal)What was really delicious was the homemade serradura dessert which is whipped cream and cookie crumbs; it was divine. They had a delicious fruity glaze on top; the combination was amazing. They had a lot of great desserts so don’t miss out on them!
Very delicious food at reasonable prices. The staff are just amazing and really accommodating! As the place is small, you will probably have to wait, but its worth it!
We read all the great reviews - and they are all true. Amazing food, amazing hostess. Well worth the wait of half an hour! A must when in Porto.
Enjoyed every bite!Whenever I stop into Porto; Voltaria is my go to place! Still cant forget the taste of the delicious shrimp and cod rice !!Go here in advance, as the queue to this place will get onto your nerves!!
Lovely experience. Excellent food and a nice atmosphere due to the service and location. We got there pre-opening, which was lucky, because 15 minutes later the Restaurant was already full. Nevertheless, the wait is worth it. We will come back!
The service was the best! Fátima even gave as recommendations for other restaurants and food we should try in Porto. The food we had was amazing, the dish we liked most was the bacalhau con nata. The size of the place is small so you probably will have to wait in line for a bit, but as the sign at the door says, good food is worth the wait.
Well worth the wait!I went in not knowing anything about the restaurant except that it is highly rated. But their Cod Fish "con natas" style really blew me away. The soup was pretty good too. Bonus were the staff who were very warm and welcoming.Much recommended !
Great spot.We had to wait a bit but they let us order and drink while we waited. Really good food!
loved the food, tasted so comforting. portions were big and I wished I had a bigger appetite to order more! the owners were really friendly and helpful too. highly recommended!
Wow, just wow. What an experience. Fabulous food and service. Small restaurant with some really interesting dishes and service to match. We shared some tuna profiteroles, sausage balls, and black pig starters then had corn-meal crusted cod for main. All a taste explosion. The owner gave us a taste of a couple of red wines to choose our wine, thank you. I ordered a tawny Port for desert and he brought out the tawny and a 20 year old classic as well, on the house, because he thought I should compare them. Oh, and did I mention this was all at a very reasonable price. Try it.
Voltaria is a special gem of restaurant. If you’re willing to wait up to an hour to get in this wonderful hole in the wall, you won’t leave disappointed. The food here is exquisite and the octopus was the best I have ever tasted. The desserts are also excellent. Voltaria is an absolute must eat at if you are in Porto!
Highly recommend for authentic Portuguese food, one of our best meals in Portugal.Ordered their appetizers (one of each), francesinha sandwich and cod fish a bras style. All were tasty and delicious. We arrived around 230pm and saw a line of about 14 people. Waited about 1 hour total. Long wait but 100% worth it. Another option would be to arrive 30 min before they open for dinner.
Amazing. If there is a line, queue up, it is totally worth it. Food is so good and our kid loved it also. Literally order everything and share, it is fabulous. Great staff and service. Picturesque location, just make time to stop by and eat.
Best food experience in Porto. We had pork cheek and the famous sandwich. Everything was amazing. They were very friendly. They only have 4 tables inside, make a reservation if you can. We waited for almost one hour without reservation but it was worth every minute.
We were there on Monday afternoon for our late lunch. We waited about 45minutes to get a table but since it has such a good review and offer cheap but quality food so we decided to wait and try it out. We ordered the cheese board for our starter, our main course were francesinha, octopus and the codfish. And as expected, the food was very nice with friendly price. Staffs were so so nice and friendly. Definitely recommend this place!!
Bolinho de bacalhau is divine. Expect a bit of queuing outside but the food is worth it. Excellent service also.
A MUST go when in Porto. It was absolutely delicious. The best Bacalhau as Bras I’ve ever tried, and the octopus was perfectly cooked. Honestly I super recommend these two dishes, we super enjoyed them. We asked recommendations for the dessert, other than being absolutely lovely waitresses, super kind and attentive, she gave us her favorite dessert. The strawberry mousse with Porto wine. It was so perfectly creamy with fresh strawberries, Porto wine in the bottom and some candy cristals on the top, the combination of textures was amazing. You might have to wait some time to catch a table so maybe a good idea to get there early. There’s around 4 tables inside and 2 outside. Service was super fast! We paid 40€ for 2 main dishes, 1 dessert and a bottle of vino verde, totally worth it!
Amazing and authentic food in the heart of Porto! No reservations, as it’s a small eatery of 4 tables inside and 2/3 outside, so be aware you may need to wait but it’s definitely worth the wait. Visit around 30 minutes before opening and you should be able to get a table in the first round. We tried the Francesinha, Tentúgal de Alheira (spinach pastry), Bochecha de porco preto em vinho tinto (pork cheeks in red wine sauce- all delicious and flavourful. The plates are brought to the table in rounds so you don’t mix flavours.Service is great, the waitresses are multilingual, we heard them speaking English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. Very attentive and knowledgeable on the dishes and pairings. Please come and support this local business. The bad reviews seem to be people who waited and didn’t actually try the food.
Small boutique hole in the wall restaurant, one of the few Portuguese restaurants in the vicinity that we found.A queue forms before opening hours, which you need to join at least 30 minutes before opening time if you want the opportunity to try their fabulous food when they open, otherwise it’s about a 40-60 minute as guests finish their meals. The restaurant consists of 14 covers internally and ~6 covers externally. The food has great taste and texture, with the pork cheeks being so tender and flavoursome with a slight spicy kick at the end, the service was impeccable, being tourists we wanted to try everything but they assured us that there would be enough food and suggested alternatives that would be similar. All in all, a superb experience. This restaurant is not for those who are in a rush, the relaxed pace is a nice change to the hustle and bustle of a busy city. I highly recommend that you give the visit 2 hours.
Super delicious with an incredibly welcoming staff!! Worthy of 5 stars if not for the hour and a half wait. Great prices for traditional food in a popular area of Porto. Worth the wait!!
Food was super delicious, tasted oh home cooked, desserts were superb and the staff were friendly and even gave our son a little bowl of chips as he wouldn’t eat what we had.
Small family Portuguese restaurant with an amazing food and very welcoming host!We came 30min before the opening…and we weren’t even the first ones in the line to be seared:)We enjoyed octopus and black pig cheek dishes. Desert was our favorite! Can’t remember the name of it…but we were fighting who’s going to get the final spoon of it 😁
OMG, this place is simply fantastic! We had to queue for almost one hour to get but it’s worth the wait. The food has that grandma feeling that takes your memory back to your childhood. All the dishes were delicious. Staff was friendly.Cannot recommend more!
we popped in here for our first dinner in Porto Food and Wine was great Service was also nice 😊
Rustic little restaurant but staff v friendly. Food v good. Gorgeous starters - think I would have been happy trying all of them. Codfish in cream delicious. Cream of heaven dessert heavenly. V reasonably priced too.
Only downside was the waiting time, which says a lot about the demand for this place. But the over one hour wait was well worth it: great local food with a twist at a very reasonable price and excellent costumer service. The place is well located and well taken care of. Really enjoyed trying all the starters, our favourite was the "pastel de Tentúgal" with alheira, definitely a must try!
Definetely worth a try.Stunning atmosphere and delicious foods. My wife and I and her two other portuguese friends really enjoyed everything we ordered from starters to desserts.
Lovely dining experience having eaten here twice. Great wine, even better food and the best hosting company we have experienced in all of Portugal. The restaurant is small but their heart is huge. Full of excellent company that feels like aunts and uncles you havent seen in forever that take their time to greet you, I can fully endorse this home with a full heart.
Worth the wait!! Not that we had to wait as we got there before they opened, but as we ate a line quickly formed. The staff was so friendly and lovely, and the food was even better! We both got francesinhas, and tried the cod and ham pastels. Everything was amazing. The francesinha sauce was spicier than usual, which was a plus for me. The ham and jam pastel was so awesome, and we finished it all with the cream of heaven. Delicious!
Amazing little tapas place with super friendly and accommodating staff, even for tourists with limited (or noPortuguese.A small selection of exclusive tapas compliments a mainly fish based menu but with options including the famous Porto francesinha. It’s a small space, so there might be a bit of a wait. There are some outside tables.
This is THE hidden gem in Porto! The octopus dish (sorry, I forgot the exact name but there is only onewas awesome and almost made me cry! Didn’t know that octopus can be cooked softly, I just knew it chewy. On top, there the restaurant team is really nice and loves to chat with you! @Tourists: Maybe you should even visit this place twice!
Great place, the food is incredibly tasty and home like. The staff is super friendly and hospitable. Profiteroles with tuna are amazing. Cod is super. Waiting is worth it.
We waited for an hour in the rain to get a table. We had no idea if it was worth the waiting. It was the only place that I’ve found with a vegetarian version of famous “francesinha” called “Goodie”. It was absolutely amazing and made with chips, cheese, fried egg and “francesinha” sauce. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. They even prepay special dish for my baby brother. The best part of the meal was dessert called “Cream from heaven”. It tastes as good as it is called. I felt like I was in heaven. 🌈 I’ll definitely come back and show this wonderful place to more people.
The voltaria is a small (5 tablesbut fine restaurant. As so often in porto, you have to make a reservation to get a seat here.I would gladly give more than 5 stars. The food was amazing and so are the prices. The tapas are cheap but taste just fantastic. Here everything is still cooked and freshly prepared. The main course was also a dream. The portions are large and make you full. In terms of taste and quality, this restaurant plays in the highest league. The waitress was super friendly and helpful. You could also joke with her a little. Very competent. As mentioned above, the price-performance ratio is top.If you visit Porto, you should definetly visit this restaurant.
Great food, stuff and service. Octopus and stewed meat (not picturedwere perfect. Desserts were also really good and tasty. I really reccommend this place :)
Absolutely awesome food! We got the last table they had for the day (later learned that they are booked out for the next two days - definitely reserve a table). It the best food we had in Porto by a long shot and we will definitely come back the next time we are in the city.100% recommend
Let me start by saying, we had no idea what we were getting into. We waited over an hour after stumbling into this gem. We were the last ones served and were still treated with royalty. We ordered the Francesinha (traditional Portuguese sandwichand the cod with fried potatoes. Each dish was meticulously crafted with life and care. The flavors were out of this world. We also ordered the exclusive apps and highly recommend. After eating the main courses we were concerned we were overstaying our welcome as we were the last people there. After this, we were promptly told to relax. We were served desert and a port wine. This was genuinely one of the best restaurant experiences of my entire life. Worth every minute of the wait.
Delicious food in small, family restaurant. You feel like they prepared dishes with all their hearts - we took codfish soup, caldo verde soup and local speciality francesinha and all was fresh and exceptionally tasty. I leave 5 stars and truly recommend. Worth to wait in the line to get the table!
Food is very good!! Cozy and friendly place! Make sure to come early because it’s quite tiny and popular. The fish soup was ssssooo good omg!Octopus salad was very refreshing and nice.Oven cooked octopus was a bit over cooked and dry, tho the seasoning was very on point.Francesinha was nicely cooked, I finally got to try at a decent place. But I guess it wasn’t my thing, too heavy haha.If there’s chance, def will revisit this nice place!
It was a very good restaurant! I loved it there, but they don’t have too many seats😭 I waited for about 20mins but you wouldnt feel like you wasted your time. Very friendly and kind staff, nice food and also a good price! I definitely recommend the dessert called cream for heaven🥳🥳🥳
Small restaurant with friendly, very efficient staff and delicious food. If youre there without reservation, probably will have to wait and theres a long line. Octopus was super. They have different desserts, all good options. They have a map inside and there you can add the country youre from (if someone else didnt do so before).
Amazing! Our favorite restaurant during our stay in Porto. Absolutely delicious starters, equally amazing main dish and best dessert in my life. I recommend booking a table in advance
One of the best desserts I have ever had in my life. Soup was also excellent and loved the general atmosphere. The owner and waiters were also incredibly friendly. Would highly recommend.Update: we went back on the last night of our trip and the food was just as excellent as the first. Would return whenever we come to Porto
